Sequence Stratigraphy

This course provides knowledge in sequence stratigraphy. Furthermore, causes, processes and mechanisms leading to the formation and filling of sedimentary basins are discussed. Sequence stratigraphy describes the spatiotemporal distribution of facies in a basin as a response of the sedimentary system to changes in sea level, available depositional space, and the amount of sediment supplied.

Exercises will include facies and sequence interpretations using outcrop and borehole data.

The course will be taught in German or English.
