Membrane Biology
In this module we discuss biological membranes from the perspective of their main constituents: lipids and proteins. Each lecture combines both theoretical and thematically related practical aspects for the study of membrane lipids and proteins. Current literature is discussed. The seminar will highlight the latest developments in membrane biology.
Lecture: Topics will include the diversity and design
of lipids and membrane proteins, cellular organization of lipids,
biogenesis of membrane proteins, membrane protein-lipid interactions,
pathophysiology of membrane proteins, and state-of-the-art methods to
study structure, function and dynamics of membrane proteins. In
self-study, students will work on selected research papers on the
respective topics, which will be discussed in the following lecture.
Seminar: Students will participate in research
colloquia and seminars on membrane biology to learn about the latest
findings and methodological developments.
