Seminar for students of the Faculty of Law (including exchange students),
students of the Master’s Programs in Modern East Asian Studies (MEAS) and
Southeast Asian Studies (SEAS)

Date of block sessions: 4-6 July 2026, 10:00-18:00 Room RuW 2.101.
Introductory session: 2 February 2026, in the morning at 8:15 am via ZOOM.
In this session, students will be assigned their individual topics. Kindly think of your preferences beforehand based on the list of topics provided on OLAT. Please, use the following link:

If you are unable to participate in the introductory session, please send an email to Prof. Bälz indicating three of your favorite topics from the provided list. Depending on demand, it should be possible to join the seminar later.

Requirements to gain credits (Leistungsnachweise):
Law Students: The course can be taken for credit as a seminar in the concentration (Schwerpunkt) Internationalisierung und Europäisierung. It alternatively – or even in addition – counts as a course in foreign legal terminology (fremdsprachige Rechtskenntnisse).
Grading will be based 1/3 on the oral performance (presentation of 15- 20 minutes (2/9) and participation in class discussions (1/9)) and 2/3 on the written paper (15 pages excl. references, etc.). Deadline for submission of written papers is 30 August 2026 (searchable pdf by email to baelz@jur.uni-frankfurt.de).
ERASMUS Students: The same rules apply as for regular law students.
MEAS Students: The course counts as a legal elective. Exam registration (MEAS): with Philprom via QIS/LSF TBD. Withdrawal from exam registration (MEAS): with Philprom via QIS/LSF, up to one week before exam date/submission of paper.
Students are expected to present orally (15- 20 minutes), and hand in a written paper (15 pages excl. references etc.), grading will be based 1/3 on the oral performance (presentation of 15- 20 minutes (2/9) and participation in class discussions (1/9)) and 2/3 on the written paper (15 pages excl. references etc.). The deadline for submission of written papers is 30 August 2026 (if failed or excused for sickness or another important reason, the deadline for the second attempt is 30 September 2026). SEAS Students: The course counts as elective 8.1. Requirements are the same as those for MEAS students described above.
